gnome parts

I am notoriously bad at starting projects and then taking forever to finish them. Forever as in years. This is especially true with projects that involve sewing multiple parts together or other massive amounts of finishing work. I’m pretty sure I wrote about this one time, but I like sewing, I like knitting, but I do not like mixing the two. I don’t know why, I just know that I don’t like it.

One of the projects that fits into this category is “Yuletide Gnomes,” a pattern by Alan Dart. This pattern was in a Christmas pattern supplement to Simply Knitting, a British knitting mag. I’m making this as a Christmas present for my mother-in-law, who collects gnomes (really a specific kind of gnome, but I think she’ll like this one anyway). I knitted all the individual parts in a decent amount of time, but man, I can not get motivated to sew up all the parts. I’ve finished seaming and stuffing the body, the hat and one arm, and I’ve finished seaming the beard and the nose. I should mention that this was supposed to be a Christmas present in 2005, not 2007. Each year I do just a touch of the finishing, and then I put the darn thing back in its bag and stick it with my other unfinished projects. Maybe I can finish it this weekend. That would be nice, though I can’t make any promises.
